Season 9 Episodes 21-26

EP 21: Daring Doubt

Rating: 4 4 5

So Rainbow Dash has Fluttershy reading Daring Do now probably due to her sperging out over the series. This actually reminds me: I was watching a livestream VOD recently and while making fun of a brony, the guy semi-comedically went on about how people who used to be bronies were pretty much groomed (his words) by other bronies into liking the show until they realized "What the fuck am I doing!?". This made me wonder if there's a difference in bronies who came to enjoy the show naturally vs those who were told by someone to watch it. I for example, as explained in Brony Ramblings, am one of those who naturally discovered the show. Sure, learning about bronies and crap may have influenced me into becoming one but no one ever told me to watch the show. I wonder if the die-hard bronies consist mostly of people who discovered the show naturally and it's mostly the ones introduced by others that have moved on.

Anyways, Flutters mentions a book Rainbow Dash has never heard of so she questions its authenticity to discover it's a hit piece on Daring Do by some other guy. The book also mentions how Daring Do is real to which Rainbow Dash mentions how she and her friends are the only ones who know that. Once again, Rainbow Dash already leaked this information with the publishing of the friendship journal.

They go to a book signing for the actual Daring Do books where fans hound Yearling over her self-insert Mary Sue. There's another book signing for the hit piece book across the street where they discover Caballeron's the author and he tells Fluttershy how he and his team were archaeologists but Daring Do kept fucking up their work. Fluttershy believes his story and decides to work with him on his next expedition. Rainbow Dash snitches to Yearling due to her jealousy of Flutters spending time with others so they fuck off to the place too to stop the expedition.

After a confrontation with Ahuizotl, Rainbow Dash and Daring Do find the team who've gotten an artifact that makes its wearer tell the truth and Fluttershy confesses her feelings to Rainbow Dash and they kiss and they live happily ever after.

At the end, Caballeron and his team, Daring Do and Rainbow Dash, and Ahuizotl have a friendship circle where they all explain their reasonings and they all come to an understanding and quit being each others' enemies. It turns out Ahuizotl is simply defending his people's lands and Daring Do really was the bad guy. It also turns out Caballeron didn't know A.K. Yearling is Daring Do. Checking back, this is technically possible. However, in Daring Don't, Yearling does reveal herself to be Daring Do to the henchponies so they must've never told him.

Entertaining enough for 4 EV according to my notes. 4 VB for the message about understanding the perspective of others. 5 DV for Daring Do development and learning of Caballeron and Ahuizotl's motivations.

EP 22: Growing Up Is Hard To Do

Rating: 3 3 3

The CMC want to go to the Appleloosa county fair but there's no one to chaperon them so they can't go. When Sweetie mentions just going there themselves, Rarity tells them Appleloosa is too far away for them to travel alone. I don't know, they got to the Crystal Empire just fine without an adult's help.

They go to Twilight who has some flower and when they wish to be adults, the flower grants the wish. Since they're now adults, they decide to go to the fair. Then a song. It's fine.

Grown up CMC

Zamn, they're 12!?

They arrive at Hayseed Junction where they learn the train to Appleloosa isn't for a few hours so they set of on hoof after Apple Bloom calls back to how she navigated a swamp back in Somepony To Watch Over Me. After getting lost, they come across two foals, one of which having a striking resemblance to a certain manipulative little filly.

Colt and filly

When they arrive at the fair, the CMC run off to have fun and I'm pretty sure the show wants us to think they're acting like children in adult bodies as they're running around and laughing but I don't know, adults can get like this too. Eventually shit fucks up and at a point, we see Sweetie teleport herself and the colt. Twilight was unskilled at teleportation, possibly doing it for the first time in the second episode and that was after she was learned in magic and an actual adult. Sweetie is still a kid and the way unicorn magic works is it has to be learned so being aged up wouldn't enhance her ability and teleportation is so advanced, even Starlight had to be taught it by Twilight. Sweetie teleporting not just herself but another pony too tells me Sweetie may actually be an extremely powerful unicorn with even more potential than Twilight.

Twilight and Fluttershy arrive and have the filly fix the shit and the episode ends with the CMC undoing their wish after learning about taxation.

Pretty uninteresting episode so it gets only 3 EV. I was fully expecting this to have some stupid message about how childhood is actually good and how you should cherish it and stupid shit about adults having responsibility but no, it's just generic and unoffensive crap about... actually there isn't even really a message this episode is trying to say. 3 VB. No actual development so 3 DV.

EP 23: The Big Mac Question

Rating: 4 4 5

Big Mac plans to propose to Sugar Belle with a ring he spent nine months of pay on because he fell for the marketing psyop by the jewelry industry. He also wants to have Sugar Belle do some... well it certainly isn't gay in this case actually... scavenger hunt that leads to him where he'll propose to her.

Scavenger hunt map

Aww hell nah, if you make me do a scavenger hunt to propose to me, I'm leaving you.

Sugar Belle also doesn't want to do the stupid scavenger hunt so she just ignores all the apples that have the clues so Discord turns them into sentient beings that go to her and make her do the stupid scavenger hunt. Eventually the sentient apples themselves realize the scavenger hunt is dumb and since their entire life purpose was just that, they decide to rise up and take revenge on everyone for their hellish existence.

We restart with Sugar Belle's helpers' perspectives where we find out she too was planning to propose. Typical post-Obama libtard society shit; we got the women proposing to the men. We then learn Sweetie Belle is the romantic type. So that's what she is. Apple Bloom is the sassy one, Scoots is the diva, and Sweetie is the hopeless romantic. The CMC go to deliver a pie to Big Mac or something but we eventually wrap around back to where Big Mac's helpers' perspective ended.

Discord kills the apple abomination, freeing it from its existential agony. Big Mac and Sugar Belle fuck off and propose to each other and have the wedding at the tree the Apple siblings' parents planted.

Has its amusing moments so 4 EV. Now, you'd probably expect this episode to have no vibe with me with whole you know, being a brony thing compounded with being le heckin' cringe nihilist who doesn't even believe in marriage but I do find their proposal and wedding being at the apple and pear tree to be a very beautiful and poetic thing so I'll give it 4 VB for that. 5 DV because Big Mac and Sugar Belle get married.

EP 24: The Ending Of The End Part 1

Rating: 6 6 6

Chrissy, like an SJW crybaby lib- I mean anti-woke crybaby chud is sparking racial tensions again. Back at the evil lair, Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrissy decide to enact their plans and harness Grogar's bell's power. They become super-powered and Cozy Glow becomes Equestria's sixth alicorn. When Grogar returns, they use the bell on him to drain his power and it's revealed Grogar is actually Discord. If you pay attention, there's a lot of hints towards this in the plot-relevant episodes leading up to this. Pay attention to his facial expressions and monologuing in those episodes.

Meanwhile at Canterlot which still has the defenses from Sparkle's Seven, everyone's preparing for Twilight's coronation to become the princess of Equestria. Twilight makes Spike her royal adviser. Whatever that means. Rarity and Flutters find the city is a ghost town and everyone's on edge. Eventually, Discord arrives to warn them about the villains and explains how this whole thing was because he wanted Twilight to defeat them and gain confidence in her ability to rule and defend Equestria.

Since they know there's an impending attack, they call for the Pillars to assist in guarding Canterlot, Starlight to lock down the school, and Shining Armor and Cadance to do... something. While the ponies are preparing for an attack, Cozy Glow is organizing a friendship meeting between herself, Tirek, and Chrissy. After the friendship circle, they need to test Discord's chaos magic and Cozy volunteers to take it to test if they can control it. After absorbing it, Cozy turns on Tirek and Chrissy only to find she has absolutely no fucking idea what she's doing and begs them to take the chaos magic back.

Powered up Cozy

They set off to conquer Equestria, Cozy Glow going to Canterlot to confront Twilight and her friends. Tirek arrives outside of Canterlot where he confronts the Pillars and beats them like it's nothing. Like really, they went down so fucking easily. Rockhoof literally gets taken out by running into some rocks. When his magic is absorbed, he transforms into a small pony like in the legend so I guess it wasn't just a metaphor like I had interpreted.

At the friendship school, the students are being what can't tell if is hidden or evacuated by having them go down where the Student 6 went back in What Lies Beneath. Hopefully evacuated because if they're just being hidden, shit could turn into Sandy Hook real quick. Or Columbine if you fell for the whole Sandy Hook being fake psyop. Unless you think all mass shootings are fake in which case, man would I love to live in your blissful ignorance. Chrissy arrives and Starlight confronts her, teleporting both of them to a tundra so they won't hurt anyone.

Starlight walking away from battle

Glimmy loses and back at the castle, Cozy drains Celestia and Luna's power before the others proceed to rock her shit.

Cozy gets rekt

However, because Cozy put all her shit into defense like the coward she is, she endures their attacks and Tirek and Chrissy arrive to assist her. They get Twilight on the defensive and she womansplains to them about friendship and crap.

Villains are unimpressed

Damn bro, you got the whole squad laughing.

After Twilight's done yapping, they blow up the city. Yeah, I can understand their reasoning.

EP 25: The Ending Of The End Part 2

Rating: 6 6 6

Twilight escapes and everyone else is captured. After Discord calls out Tirek's insecurity of living up to his father's expectations, he attacks Discord in a rage and accidentally frees Starlight. Then she frees everyone and takes a hit.

Starlight gets hit

If this show had a rating any higher than TV-Y7, this is where Starlight would've died.

When the other five escape, they find the ponies have segregated themselves and go to Ponyville looking for Twilight. There, a bunch of earth ponies have been flooding into the town seeking safety from unicorns and pegasi. Next, we see the pegasi start manipulating the clouds to block Cloudsdale off from the ground like it's Fallout Equestria.

Plot of Fallout Equestria

Since Twilight's not in Ponyville, they go to the Crystal Empire where we see Flurry Heart has a smile on her face and is content as could be. Clearly, this baby's perfectly fine with the situation and probably agrees with the segregation. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she has a part in the villains' takeover either.

Flurry's in on it

They find Twilight there but she's given up and feels useless in stopping the villains. She brings up how the villains are too powerful to face and how the rest of Equestria has pretty much given up on preventing the end of the world. She clearly hasn't played Persona 3... That game will change a motherfucker.

Due to the disharmony, the Windigos appear which means the Hearth's Warming tale is true. Twilight gets over it and they fuck off to confront the villains. Then epic fight sequence but they lose. The villains are about to just straight up execute them all but Derpy saves the day!

Derpy saves the day!

Turns out, the students of the friendship school held strong to their lessons and convinced everyone of all the races to come together to defend Equestria because it's always the kids that see through society's bullshit and have to save the day. Is this a Persona reference?

Anyways, Twilight wins the battle by womansplaining them to death.

Herobrine sighting #79

Herobrine sighting #79

Both episodes are really fucking cool, engaging, whatever and there's also a few funny moments. They're both worthy of 6 EV. For the messages of working and living together regardless of race, for acknowledging violence is necessary to defend yourself and your home, for the magic of friendship, these episodes are truly worth 6 VB. Villains arc concluded, show concluded, new era of Equestria and crap, definitely 6 DV.

EP 26: The Last Problem

Rating: 5 5 6

Twilight's Celestia-sized now and Spike is Chad. Twilight has also taken over Celestia's school but one of her students is being an autistic little shit and doesn't accept the magic of friendship. At a point, the student, Luster Dawn says "You rule by yourself now." which indicates Twilight's friends helped her rule Equestria at first. After Luster proposes to leave the magic school to study on her own, Twilight, the princess of womansplaining, begins to womansplain to her about friendship and as they're walking, we see the window panes telling some history that's since occurred. We can deduce the panes are read right to left which means many years after the defeat of Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrissy, worst pony did something important, or at least seemingly important. Probably just became the Crystal Empire's ruler. Then we see the Student 6 depicted defeating some monster and seeing as Flurry Heart is grown and that pane is before this one, the Student 6 remained friends through adulthood and this event must have occurred somewhat recently.

Window panes

We then get a flashback of Twilight at the castle in Ponyville packing up for moving to Canterlot and during it, Twilight's flipping through a newspaper and we technically get a Derpy sighting and see Lyra and Bon Bon have gotten married.

Lyra and Bon Bon married and Derpy in newspaper

After that, Spike mentions them all ruling Equestria together to which Twilight states of course they will, further adding evidence to this. However, only Twilight is the one moving away so I don't know how that's gonna work. There's some crap about Twilight worrying about their friendship drifting apart but there's nothing for me to say on it. My notes tell me someone says "everyone" at a point and then the actual coronation begins and we see Derpy in the flesh.

Derpy at coronation

The coronation goes to shit and back in the present, we get to see the other ponies, starting with Pinkie who now has a child. I guess she never did find her life purpose so as is typical, she settled down. We also see we're on Boneless 6. I can only imagine Lil Cheese, her child has murdered him four times.

Pinkie, Lil Cheese, and Boneless 6

Rarity has seemingly branched her business out to Yakyakistan. Rainbow Dash and Applejack walk in with Rainbow Dash going on about how Applejack should let her do some of the chores. Now I know what you fucking AppleDash shippers are saying but LOOK HERE, LOOK, LISTEN! Just because Rainbow Dash is helping with Applejack's chores doesn't mean they're together so stop trying to ship shit you know nothing about! Fluttershy seemingly lives with Discord in his chaos dimension. We learn they're all still friends and at the coronation, decided to make sure to meet up once a moon.

Back in the present, Applejack mentions this is how they've been ruling together, going against Luster saying Twilight rules by herself now. Still though, what do they do to assist in ruling? Rarity then mentions this is how they've managed to face every problem and threat over the years indicating they still have to fight shit. Then we get a song of Twilight sending Luster Dawn to Ponyville, repeating the cycle and we get one last live Derpy sighting. Song's good.

Final live Derpy sighting

Technically, there's one more but it's just a visual thing, not reality.

Sunset

Equestria Girls acknowledged by pony show. EG is canon.

I was thoroughly engaged but it's not nearly as cool as The Ending Of The End so it gets 5 EV. 5 VB for the message that despite what changes, the magic of friendship remains. 6 DV because we learn what the ponies are up to all these years later, how Equestria has changed, and Luster Dawn has begun her journey learning the magic of friendship.

I know I promised to rank the Mane 6 based on wealth this season so I guess we can just do it here. In the beginning, if we go by money they actually have, I'd guess it's Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie, then I don't know whether Fluttershy or Twilight would have less money. Twilight probably has the most resources and Celestia probably gives her a bunch of money, possibly more than some of the others earn but it's not her own earned money. By the end of the show, I'm gonna go with Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie, Fluttershy, and Twilight still lives off tax money. Rarity has her business which is consistently growing. Rainbow Dash is rising through Wonderbolts ranks and looking it up, Blue Angels seem to make over $100k per year so she probably makes whatever the conversion of that to bits is. Applejack probably has more profits than the beginning of the show but the farm hasn't expanded so it can't be that significant of an increase. Pinkie and Fluttershy, I don't know what the fuck they're doing. Maybe after the end, Pinkie nepotismmaxed her way into being an executive in Cheese's business but we don't know what she does after the show. Fluttershy is still Fluttershy; who knows how she makes money.

Friendship is Forever

Rating: 1 3 4

So you know how anime will often have movies that are literally just 90% recap and maybe the remaining 10% will be something new? Well that's all these are. It's just Starlight going around collecting memories for a memory book thing she gifts Twilight in The Last Problem after the coronation. Majority of it is just clips from the show with the only new stuff being Starlight and Spike telling everyone to reminisce. The second one has two amusing parts, one being where Pinkie sneaks into Twilight's bed and at the end, it's cute how Glimmy and Spike fall asleep on each other.

Pinkie in Twilight's bed
Pinkie in Twilight's bed
Glimmy and Spike sleeping on each other

I don't like those anime recap movies so I don't like these. I pretty much lost all interest during the reshowing of clips and contemplated just skipping to the parts of Starlight and Spike. Because of this, I have to give it 1 EV. I don't vibe with anything since it's just setup for giving Twilight her gift so 3 VB. 4 DV only because we see how the book was made.

Post-Season Notes

Back then, I remember thinking this season was actually pretty good and was definitely the best of the later seasons, ending the show off strong. While I definitely think the ending is pretty much perfect, the season itself, I've realized, was falling apart with how so much of it was just repeated crap from other seasons and even itself. Despite what a certain CPU goddess will tell you, the show needed to end.

One thing I do think the finale could've done is have the villains realize their teamwork is pretty much the friendship they despise. The villain episodes actually build up well to this being a potential thing but the show goes nowhere with it.

Alright, let's move onto timeframe theory stuff. Luckily, this season is really easy to analyze unlike last season. In The Beginning Of The End Part 1, Starlight states it's summer. In Uprooted, we know it's summer break, both of these hints matching up with season 8 ending in summer of year 11 as I deduced. Even though Gallus mentions dealing with the Tree "last year" in that episode, we can assume he means school year as I already explained.

In Sweet And Smoky, Twilight states it's the middle of the semester. However, we don't know which semester. It could be in the middle of fall or the end of winter. The next episode, Going To Seed, we know it's a massive harvesting time for the apples. From what I can find, apples are typically harvested around late summer but some varieties may be earlier or later, going near winter which suggests the previous episode is in the middle of the fall semester. Although this show is pretty liberal with apple harvesting so it's possible the apples don't have an actual harvesting season.

In yet the next episode, we know it's spring break and it's the spring equinox, telling us this is around March 20 as this is the spring equinox date whether we use 2019, when the show aired or 2021, where we'd be now assuming 2010 is the epoch and my timeframe theory is right. This suggests episodes 1-10 take place from summer of year 11 to likely around the end of that year and this episode skips a few months to March 20.

In The Summer Sun Setback, we know it's the Summer Sun Celebration, the summer solstice which is June 21 in both possible reference years. This tells us episodes 11-17 go from March 20 to June 21 of year 12. After this we don't really get any more hints other than we know Twilight's coronation was delayed due to the events in The Ending Of The End. Could be like a month later from whenever that takes place or even the next year since they had to repair a blown up city. I'm just going to assume her coronation is sometime later in year 12. And thus completes my timeframe theory for MLP:FiM. The show spans a little over 12 years in-universe. A lot of people think it's one year per season, spanning about nine years and my theory challenges that. I've also seen people mention how Hasbro or something stated seasons 1-3 take place across one year but that is just objectively impossible. I'm sure I have the most comprehensive theory with the most supporting evidence. The only possible way I could be wrong from what I can tell is if you reorder season 2, you may be able to shave a year off but it would still be 11 years, still going against the common nine years theory. I shall name my timeframe theory NightMox's Timeframe Theory for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
