Forgotten Friendship

Rating: 4 5 4

Opening is a song of Sunset recapping her character arc. We get it, Sunset used to be bad and was reformed. Song's tolerable but not great. After the song, Sunset bumps into a girl and says she didn't notice her there and the girl states she's been trying to get their attention for half the song. However, unlike most songs which are sung and choreographed by the characters, this one was just the song audio over the girls taking photos and transferring them to the computer so the song couldn't've actually happened in-universe unless they were playing it on a phone or something.

Flutters looking at you

Fluttershy knows what you did.

Sunset reveals she's president of the yearbook committee and offers the girl who's named Wallflower Blush to join to which she reveals she's already a member and tells Sunset they met in ninth grade English. This confirms they are indeed speaking English in-universe. What even is the point of English class after primary school if you're fluent? I have always stated and still believe if you can master English at a fifth grade level (around age 10), you have a better understanding of the language than the vast majority of native speakers. After that point, just study linguistics and knowledge from that will transfer to your English skills; there's no point in studying English itself unless you want to specialize in some form of writing but even then, you can just develop the skill naturally without formal education.

So Wallflower tells Sunset she counted the votes for the superlatives which I didn't know was the name for the "most likely to..." and such crap. What do you think mine would've been? Trixie then walks in bitching about not being the greatest and most powerfulest to which Sunset responds saying it's not a superlative before Trixie tells her she was voted "biggest meanie" when she was a freshman despite it not being a superlative and then shows her a photo of it. Notice how Sunset has saturated hair, staying true to how her desaturated hair represents her change of character. Also, does this photo mean Snips and Snails are actually the same grade as the girls since Canterlot High is explicitly a high school and ninth grade is the lowest there can be?

Trixie then tries to escape but the door is locked and Sunset has to unlock it... from the inside. I'm pretty sure this is illegal due to fire safety regulation.

The next day the girls without Sunset are at the fucking beach, indicating this takes place sometime around summer and probably during the time of the Better Together shorts at the beach. Twi's sperging about some retarded invention and you know what? Twi needs to just shut the fuck up sometimes. Her fucking "I'm so smart and nerdy, listen to my overly complicated explanations I know you don't understand." demeanor is pissing me off. Take it from one pseudo-intellectual sperg to another, no one fucking cares and everyone knows you're a fucking loser whose only merit is their intelligence. Meanwhile, Rarity's schooling Rainbow Dash on color differences because Rainbow Dash is like Sweetie Belle and doesn't understand the nuances of colors.

Sunset's late ass finally arrives but the girls treat her like people used to treat me so she reads Applejack and Rainbow Dash's memories and finds their memories of her after her redemption are gone.

Since she's now living in the bad ending, she goes to complain to Twilight from Equestria like a girlfriend with attachment problems and asks whether they're still friends or not to find out if the memory loss has affected her too. Sunset's also using the notebook she got from Glimmy. Twilight responds, remembering her and Sunset decides to go meet her in Equestria to explain the situation. There, Twilight tells her she'll have to see Celestia for a potential fix to the conundrum.

One make-up make-out session later, Celestia guides everyone to the secret archives of the Canterlot library. Fuck you Flash Sentry. There, Twilight's screeching about her excitement to read all the ancient books and at a point goes on about how the archives have a book called "Canterlot Cantabiles Volume 31" but it sounds like she's saying "Canterlot Cannibals" and I had to check the transcript because I knew it couldn't've been that. Now I know what a cantabile is too.

Twilight finds some shit about a memory stone capable of removing memories and crap and how Clover the Clever had to keep chasing some bitch who kept abusing it and how he had to write the bullshit down to remember everything when his memory was wiped. The scroll is torn at the end since Clover didn't want anyone finding the memory stone and they deduce it must've been left in the Equestria Girls world. This means Clover the Clever has been to that world sometime over 1000 years ago before even Starswirl's time. Now that I think of it, this means Clover and the sirens, assuming they were sent to a place close to present day Canterlot City, were in the EG world in pre-colonial America chillin' with indigenous Americans. You think the Dazzlings know any of those polysynthetic languages?

Sunset returns to the EG world and asks the girls if they recognize the memory stone before showing them pictures of her and them together. This means magic can't affect digital data which is good because it would make no sense if it did because realistically at most, it would just corrupt the data because it would have to alter the encrypted data in a way that bypasses the encryption protocol without corrupting the data. Even if the data was unencrypted, the magic would still have to be bit-perfect in its alterations and I highly doubt natural magic would be capable of a task that intricate and since Equestria doesn't have digital computers, no spell has been written to do such a task regardless. Needless to say, AES-256 is probably magic-resistant.

Then Sunset trips on a ball and destroys Twi's stupid drone. Good. People with drones are fucking annoying and should be shot. At school, everyone has forgotten Sunset's redemption and she bumps into Micro Chips, knocking him over and when she offers to help him, he gives her his lunch money, thinking she's threatening him. You know what, maybe I should've just been a bully. At least then I would've gotten something out of my aggression and hell, I probably would've been treated less like subhuman trash by school administrators too. Remember kids, the greatest crime you can commit in school is standing up for yourself.

Sunset confronts Trixie, thinking she's the one with the memory stone but Trixie has no idea what she's talking about. Sunset then calls her out for wanting to be the greatest and most powerfulest, stating powerfulest isn't a word. We've already been over this, Sunset. Anyways, Sunset also almost calls her a manipulative bitch. After some gay-ass heart-to-heart crap, Trixie assists Sunset in finding the memory stone.

Back in Equestria, Twilight finds the missing page and discovers memories wiped by the memory stone are gone forever after three days. In EG world, Sunset and Trixie are investigating, trying to find a suspect and when they go to Micro Chips and ask him about erasing memories, he mentions erasing four terabytes of "quanto-accelerflex memory". He says "quanto" which is a word that pretty much means "quantity" in certain languages instead of quantum as the prefix so I'm guessing it's pretty much just a bullshit way of saying it's a fast SSD and doesn't mean Equestria Girls has consumer-available quantum computing.

In the photo room, Sunset and Trixie notice one of the student's photo's missing and we technically get a Derpy sighting.

Derpy

Wallflower Blush is the one missing a photo and she's in the room with them. Sunset then reads Twilight's message about needing to find some rock formation where the stone is buried which looks like the rock formation Wallflower has as her wallpaper on the computer she's using. Wallflower explains she's the founder of the gardening club and its only member. Trixie then calls her an autist. Sunset views Wallflower's memories.

Turns out, Wallflower is a femcel who no one cares about so she used the stone because she's jealous of Sunset. You know, I'm really starting to notice a pattern with Equestria Girls villains. Then we get one of the best fucking songs in the whole fucking show. Like damn, why do children's cartoons make better pop music than songs that have millions pumped into their production? The song's cut short when Wallflower notices Sunset rummaging through her backpack since the song was actually happening in-universe and made sense to be actually happening unlike the song at the beginning of the special.

Wallflower wipes their memories and locks them in the room but Sunset was smart enough to record the event with Twi's drone camera which is there for some reason so she quickly remembers what the fuck she was doing. In the video, we hear the instrumental during Wallflowers song so where the fuck did it come from? Was she playing it from her phone and sung the vocals? Anyways, they're trapped in the room but Trixie's smoke bombs can somehow teleport one of them at a time to the other side of the door. I have no idea how to explain how this happens other than Trixie has actual magic smoke bombs.

Outside it's evening and a bunch of students, including the girls are still at the school for some reason. Sunset runs after Wallflower who screams at her and Sunset tries to womansplain about loneliness to her to which Wallflower says she's not lonely because she has plants. What's next, is she going to start a tech blog where she just complains about men and rambles about lesbian feminism nonstop?

Wallflower has a little sperg fit and decides to erase all the girls' memories of high school altogether but Sunset jumps in front of the magic beam thing before it can hit them. She forgets she's human and freaks out in confusion while acting like a pony. Then the girls figure Sunset must actually be good since she sacrificed herself for them so they do some friendship magic shit and restore her memories or something and use the power of marketable toy designs to stop the evil femcel. Everyone gets their memories back and they invite Wallflower to the reformed femcel club.

Pretty entertaining throughout so 4 EV. 5 VB for Wallflower's character. Although I don't relate to her personal motivations, I do relate to being a complete nobody and having to resort to what people would perceive as 'villainous' behavior to resist abuses committed against me. You know, pre-teen me would be a great Equestria Girls villain. 4 DV for Sunset and Celestia settling their quarrels.
