The movie starts with Rainbow Dash having an emergency that requires everyone to rush to the school right away. That emergency being a broken guitar string. Applejack is an uncaring and unsupportive friend though and tells her it's not a real issue. But why is Rainbow Dash still at school while everyone else wasn't? We then get an animation continuity error with the CMC again.
They're sitting on the stairs.
CMC are gone.
Sunset decides to try to use the magical journal to talk to Twilight. Then as she's doing so, this world's Twilight who's dressed like me shows up and fucks around the portal with some device thing. Sunset notices and when she gets this world's Twilight's attention, she runs away across the street. Sunset almost commits insurance fraud and Twilight pulls a swing and stop on a light pole suggesting she's running an intelligence-agility build.
This world's Twilight who I will just call Twi in reference to her fanon name Sci-Twi takes a bus into the city and arrives at her school which seems to be in the middle of an urban area unlike the Pinkie Spy short where it's in an open field. Then we get the opening credits song thing which is alright. We also see her birthday thing I referenced back in season 2. This also means this movie takes place in April and considering this came out after season 5 which ends sometime around early year 7, does align with my timeframe theory at least in terms of when in the year it takes place. We will also get another timeframe hint at the end of the movie. There's still the problem of the girls' grades progressing like in Rainbow Rocks however. Assuming time is synchronous with Equestria, we have to kinda just assume they were probably sophomores in Equestria Girls 1 and the Sunset photos were her at other school events and not just the Fall Formal. Or that their grades were retconned after the first movie and we have to just pretend those pictures are non-canon.
In the intro, we also see who I call the Rival 5. Unfortunately, the movie does barely anything with them. After the intro, we see Twi is an engineer. Back at Canterlot High, the girls are fucking around in the library and Applejack decides to be a cunt and rub it in Sunset's face that she was evil. We then learn about Crystal Prep, the high school in the city which suggests Canterlot High is in the suburbs of some city. We also learn that Crystal Prep beats Canterlot High in everything.
Next, Celestia and Luna are explaining the Friendship Games and how Crystal Prep will be coming to Canterlot High for the Friendship Games. Suggests Canterlot High has better extracurricular infrastructure. We also learn the Friendship Games only happen every four years which if you think about it, is stupid. American high school, what Equestria Girls is based on, is four years long unless you're either really smart and graduate early, the school thinks you're retarded and holds you back, you drop out, or you aren't even allowed to attend high school because the school system deems you too violent. Seeing as students spend four years in high school and the Friendship Games only happen every four years, this means only really the upperclassmen have a chance at competing and underclassmen are at a disadvantage both physically and intellectually and are much less likely to be selected for the limited roster. So if you're a freshman or sophomore, you don't really have a chance at competing in the Friendship Games.

Flash Sentry like the beta he is, dismisses the positivity Celestia is trying to express by bringing up how Canterlot High always loses. Rainbow Dash is then brought onstage to rally the school and Pinkie decides to be a beta female, repeating Flash Sentry's sentiment. Rainbow Dash then does a song that's kinda generic. In the background, we see Derpy and Bulk Biceps together in what is the first instance of them together I think. This will be relevant in later Equestria Girls stuff.
After Rainbow Dash goes pony mode, Luna talks to the girls about how she doesn't want magic interfering with the Friendship Games and tells Sunset to figure it out, dude. She goes to the library to figure it out but fails.
We're then back at Crystal Prep following Twi and the shot of her in the locker hall as the camera pans up looks pretty cool with how the environment is separate from the characters. I don't know how to explain it but it does look cool. I've also noticed this movie seems to have better animation so maybe there was a budget increase.
We then see a shot of Twi's study room and her pet dog Spike who's a normal dog and can't talk. He then hears Twi approaching and wakes up from his slumber in pure excitement at Twi's arrival. He goes to the door eager to see her again only for Twi to kick the door open and send him flying across the room into a trash bin. This was absolutely fucking hilarious.
Twi then spergs about her magical studies crap and some shit about an Everton Independent Study Program which just sounds like a fancy way of saying Individualized Education Program which is a completely useless thing schools do for autists and retards in an attempt to get them to not want to hang themselves in the school bathroom but in reality IEPs are completely useless and do nothing in practice.
Twi song is cliche. She arrives at Principal Cinch's office and she does a whole spiel about Crystal Prep's reputation and how Twi needs to participate in the Friendship Games and how Canterlot High is a threat this time since they've been developing a reputation themselves with all the school unity crap and whatever bettering their academics and athletics. She then just straight up blackmails Twi into participating in the Friendship Games holding the Everton Independent Study Program at ransom.
It's time to board the charter buses to Canterlot High and Twi pisses off the other students by seemingly cutting in line to talk to Dean Cadance and gets told off by two of the Rival 5. She ends up getting to cut everyone in the line and boards only to be screamed at by another of the Rival 5 going on about school pride stuff. We then see another cool shot as she walks down the bus isle with a similar effect as the locker hall shot. No one lets her sit next to them so she has to sit in the back of the bus. When I was allowed in school, I used sit in the back of the bus until I was moved to the short bus due to my violence. Anyways, Twilight has to sit in the back and the one named Sugarcoat tells her off. Then we see Lemon Zest who's sitting next to her jamming out with her headphones. Lemon Zest sees Twi and puts her headphones on her, making her listen to her music completely unprompted. Lemon Zest is my favorite of the Rival 5. Besides Lemon Zest, I didn't even know any of the other Rival 5's names before watching this movie again.
Sunset is worried about not understanding this world's magic or something. The charter bus arrives and the one who after looking it up, is named Indigo Zap just shoves Twi off the bus onto the two bitchy girls from the line. Seriously, this movie really should've introduced them better. Apparently their names are Sour Sweet and Sunny Flare. Lemon Zest then comes off the bus rocking out and Sugarcoat tells off Twi again. I rate Lemon Zest as best obviously, Sugarcoat as second with her neutral bluntness, then Indigo Zap third I guess, and then both Sour Sweet and Sunny Flare tie for worst since they're just bitchy cunts with no other character traits.
Twi then enters the school with her magic detector thing going off and bumps into Flash Sentry. Fuck you Flash Sentry. After Twi runs away from him like any smart girl should, Derpy comes to console him.
Okay, I'm on Derpibooru and apparently they're actually called the Shadow 6. This is stupid seeing as Twi never was really a part of them and she leaves Crystal Prep at the end. Rival 5 is a better name that reinforces the fact they're rivals from a rival school and is a name that can persist for them after the events of the movie seeing as you can't be the Shadow 6 without having six people. And Twi joining the girls makes the Mane 7 or whatever so we've already thrown out the holy number thing.
Rarity's then statsmaxing the other girls with her outfits and goes pony mode. Twi's device finds the magic and captures it, leaving Rarity weak. We also see that pony ears actually replace human ears since we see that Rarity's pony ears disappear before her normal ears generate back. Then Twi walks in and confusion ensues.
Sunset is sad or something and then outside, Twi's device goes off again and with the two on each side of the portal, the device captures the magic and the portal stops working making Sunset freak the fuck out. Then there's a school party or something.
I just need to say, human Lyra exudes girlboss energy.

After Pinkie starts a party and goes pony mode, the device captures it and creates a portal which closes before anyone notices. I also noticed Trixie and Octavia are talking together frequently in this movie and I think they did in a shot in Equestria Girls 1. What do you think they talk about?
Then we get the ACADECA song and oh my Mox is this song fucking amazing. Listening to it the first time in years gave me chills and I had to repeat this part of the movie a couple times because it was so good. Actually might be better than Tricks Up My Sleeve. We also see at the end of the song Sunset and Twi are competing in some complex math thing and seeing as Sunset is the one against Twi, the smartest student at Crystal Prep, this suggests that Sunset is the smartest student at Canterlot High. Here's a fun fact about me: Despite math being my worst subject, I was always around the 95th percentile in the math part of the mandatory test things we had to do. I would also score really high in the reading tests too but I was only around the 85th or 90th percentile at my highest I think. My Little Pony commentaries are where these got me. Your test scores mean nothing.
Twi wins and the girls congratulate Sunset despite not winning and Sunset goes sperg mode about it. Fuck you Flash Sentry. Twi then meets Flutters and her animals and when Flutters goes pony mode, the stuff happens and now Spike can talk. Then Twi's blackmailed again.
Plot discussion happens and Pinkie goes derp-eyed at Rainbow Dash's egotistical ramblings.
The second part of the Friendship Games start which is a three-part event thing of skating, archery, and motocross. Why the fuck are highschoolers racing dirt bikes in this thing? Is this a real thing high schools do because I highly doubt it. Also notice how the skating track goes behind the archery targets which is a serious hazard and even the motocross track surrounding both is a crashing hazard not to mention the ramps and crap I highly doubt these kids have trained to be able to safely race on. Oh and not to mention half the people doing archery don't know how to shoot arrows which is yet another hazard.
What the fuck is this? These kids are going to die.
Then Applejack's thing happens and the device thing happens and releases magic or something. A bunch of giant plant creature things just overwhelm the place and disrupt everything but no one seems to notice or care. Do they not have enough insight to see the fucking things or what? Why is no one calling emergency services? Why is no one at least recording this? Why does no one ever record the magic stuff that happens?
Sunset then goes femcel mode on Twi as she unleashes a portal and the device fucks with Rainbow Dash. Celestia, Luna, Cadance, and Cinch also admit they did indeed see all that happened so what the fuck?
At the final event, Twi's blackmailed again and we get the Unleash The Magic song. Keep treating Twi like this, she's gonna make them unleash the candy.

So she unleashes the magic and transforms into the ultimate being of femcel rage, Midnight Sparkle. Fed up with school, fed up with society, fed up with moids, she has finally attained the perfect form to enact her revenge. All those that walked over her will suffer. All the boys that didn't ask her out will suffer. All that have crossed her will suffer for they will realize their rejection, their ridicule, it was all a crime, an injustice, and tonight is the night of retribution.
Midnight Sparkle then opens a bunch of portals to Equestria which the Equestrians themselves can also see. You know damn well if this happened in our world, there would be so many people jumping in the portals without hesitation. The portals also have different times of day meaning that either portals are opening in lands far beyond Equestria, or that portals to other worlds are being opened along with Equestria, possibly other Equestrias. Also earlier during the day, a portal to Equestria showed Equestria at night and now, shows it as being day meaning if time is synchronous, there is a time offset possibly caused by the manual raising of the sun and moon.
Stuff happens and Sunset uses the power of womansplaining to quell Twi's femcel rage or something.
What the fuck is Rarity doing to Rainbow Dash?
Then Equestrian Twilight appears and mentions that she couldn't talk to Sunset because she was stuck in the time loop stuff from the season 5 finale which assuming time in synchronous, makes season 5 end in April of year 7.
Deux Derpy:
This movie gets 3 EV because I was never bored but it wasn't as engaging as Rainbow Rocks with it only having two songs I really like and the hilarious moment with Spike getting launched being the only funny moment in the entire movie. 3 VB because I don't vibe with anything. I like Lemon Zest though. 5 DV for Crystal Prep and Twi's development.
The discs also have deleted scene animatics. I think the Twi and Sunset duet is better than the song we got in the movie. One's a scene where Twilight is in human world talking to Sunset before the Friendship Games. Probably messes with the plot so they cut it. Then the alternate hall scene and alternate ending present a different inner plot with Sunset where she wants to return to Equestria but decides to stay in the end and Twi goes back to Crystal Prep instead of switching to Canterlot High.
