Some people I've talked to have asked if I'm a conspiracy theorist. My answer to them is always "not really". This is because despite the fact I may share similar ideas with a conspiracy theorist, I take a completely different approach to so-called conspiracy theories than your typical conspiracy theorist. To be clear, I make a distinction between 'conspiracy' and 'conspiracy theory'.
What I generally notice among your typical conspiracy theorist is a top-to-bottom approach to conspiracy theories and a partisan blindness. This blindness makes them only believe in conspiracy theories which support their pre-existing beliefs while dismissing conspiracy theories that are by all means compatible with ones they already believe but go against their pre-existing beliefs. This partisan blindness is why conspiracy theorists tend to be right-wing and this top-to-bottom thinking is why schizophrenia is stereotyped among them.
When it comes to partisan blindness, take for example global warming. I've been hard-pressed to find a conspiracy theorist that believes in global warming. Why? Because of reasons which pretty much boil down to "it's a liberal hoax". Even though environmentally harmful entities lobby lawmakers and fund right-wing politicians to enact laws and spout rhetoric which benefits themselves as a response to "left-wing" environmentalism, it's apparently the no-good environmentalists that are the true conspiracy. The conspiracy theorists who claim environmentalism is leftist propaganda and that global warming is a hoax have been blinded by their partisanship and successfully psyoped into puppeting the corporate propaganda. And what's really ironic is when someone will go on about chemtrails, fluoride in the water, chemically altered food, or microplastics being real environmental concerns but global warming is totally a hoax. I'm not even saying that global warming is itself real but I sure as hell don't want to be huffing smog and dealing with noticeably hotter summers just to own the libs.
Partisan blindness also leads to these kinds of conspiracy theorists supporting the very things they claim to be against. Take for example anti-globalism. Ever notice how every anti-globalist is also a right-wing Christian who wishes for the global spread and "return" to Christian values? How moral and societal decay will be solved if only we all submit ourselves to Christianity and spread its greatness around the world and convert everyone, the world will be so much better? Yeah, pretty much every anti-globalist that whines about globohomo is the biggest globohomo supporter there is. You can read my Moxistan News article where I satirize these kinds of people.
What I mean by top-to-bottom approaches to conspiracy theories is that these kinds of conspiracy theorists' understanding of supposed or confirmed conspiracies starts at the top, most grand level and trickles its way down to a baser understanding. Let's called them trickle-down conspiracy theories. They start at a belief in a grand conspiracy and then they notice the connections in less grand things like believing some group of people is acting on behalf of the conspiracy. Eventually they begin noticing connections which affect their everyday life and tie it to the grand conspiracy. But they don't actually understand anything they believe in regard to the conspiracy theory because they just started at the top and found connections as they went, abstracting their understanding. For example, how many boomer conspiracy theorists will go on about the real conspiracy of mass surveillance but yet they have the worst OpSec ever and have absolutely no real understanding at all on the topic? Yeah they think big tech is spying on everything they do and controlling society but they can't even conceive of how to defend against it as they whine about it on the big tech platforms they hate so much under their real, identifiable information. Another issue common among trickle-down conspiracy theorists is that they fail to recognize that the common man is just as responsible for enacting a conspiracy as some grand entity since the common man is the one executing the will of the conspiracy at the end of the day. Or how often does the common man use legal technicalities and rhetoric to control others and violate or manufacture their consent regardless of some grand conspiracy compelling them to do so? Now let's discuss what I call the bottom-up approach which I do. Here's the thing: I generally don't believe in any conspiracy theory I hear from other people because this is the trap trickle-down conspiracy theorists fall into. They just hear about a grand conspiracy from someone and then regurgitate what they said while finding connections after the fact. No, the so-called conspiracy theories I believe in, I do so because of my own personal experiences and observations which then branch out into a conspiracy theory if I begin noticing the things which affect me, affect other people and then society at large. For example, I've written plenty of times about how society is being conditioned into passivity, explaining how I came to this conclusion because of what has happened to me in my childhood which has carried lasting effects into my adulthood. I then noticed this pacification is happening to society at large because institutions condition people from childhood to be passive and rely on "authority". Pretty much every so-called conspiracy theory I believe in has roots in things I either noticed or experienced in my childhood. Furthermore, it's not even really that I actually believe in specific conspiracy theories, it's more that I'm intensely distrustful and critical of things due to my own experiences and observations and so I operate in way which assumes the goal or consequence of some conspiracy theory is true as opposed to believing some specific entity is responsible for it and that the conspiracy would just go away of said entity were gone.
Before writing this, I called trickle-down conspiracy theories 'schizophrenic conspiracy theories' and bottom-up conspiracy theories 'autistic conspiracy theories'. This relates to the schizophrenia vs. autism dichotomy I discuss in Our Schizophrenic Society. This is why I believe trickle-down conspiracy theories are so common among literal schizophrenics and a symptom of societal schizophrenia among those who aren't. These kinds of conspiracy theorists are finding connections among the, to their perception, unreal: concepts they don't actually have any tangible experience in or personal cognition of. Contrast this with bottom-up conspiracy theories which are based on tangible experiences and can or were capable being actually observed. Both the autist and the schizophrenic have hypersensitive pattern recognition but the schizophrenic is hyperaware of patterns that aren't really there due to their diminished sense of reality while the autist is hyperaware of patterns that do exist in material reality due to their amplified sense of reality.
A lot of conspiracy theorists have no concept of what I call 'conspiracy hacking' which is when you use a conspiracy against itself or another. My best example of this is in regard to anti-maskers. Here's the thing: I think anti-maskers are fucking retarded and it has nothing to do with public safety. Why I think they're idiots is because this situation presented an opportunity to defend against mass surveillance, especially with facial recognition being a thing but these dumbasses instead got all uppity and compromised themselves to mass surveillance just so they could own the libs or something. Starting to notice how easy it is to control people's beliefs when you make everything a partisan issue? You'd expect your typical conspiracy theorist to be like "Sure, I'll wear the mask along with my hoodie and sunglasses like a good citizen *wink* *wink*." but no, instead of taking this as an opportunity to defend against mass surveillance, these idiots proudly expose themselves to the surveillance machine. Sure they're stickin' it to the man by protesting mask off but there's a pretty damn good reason protesters cover their face. They're so focused on one conspiracy that they completely compromise themselves on another, arguably greater conspiracy. Mock me for my face diaper all you want, I'm more resistant to camera rape than you are, especially since I've been covering my head and face years before there ever were any mask mandates. Do not compromise yourself in regard to one conspiracy just to fight another and know when to hack conspiracies against themselves or others.
