My Opinions On Different Websites
As a trophy hunter of PlayStation games, I use trophy tracking websites to record my trophies and view stats, leaderboards, and other information. So far I have used 3 websites and this is my opinion on them.
These websites are:
- psntrophyleaders.com
- psnprofiles.com
- truetrophies.com
PSN Trophy Leaders
PSN Trophy Leaders was the first trophy tracking website I used and is my favorite. The website UI is well designed and provides multiple leaderboards that I enjoy seeing my ranking on. Their 'About' page tells you everything you need to know about the different leaderboards and how they work. Navigating the website and your profile is by far the best of these sites. All the info you need for general use is in a single page. The downside to this website is that stats are locked behind a subscription. PSN Trophy Leaders is the best website for general use in checking your trophies and leaderboard ranks.
PSNProfiles
PSNProfiles is probably the most popular trophy tracking site. I use it to view my stats which are unavailable on PSN Trophy Leaders without paying. Its UI is tolerable but I don't really like it. A lot of trophy guides come from this website increasing its usability. PSNProfiles also has a sessions section on its website which organises gaming sessions which can be used to boost trophies. I have used this multiple times and it is very useful. I don't think it's a good website for general use but its free stats are why I use it. Also, it doesn't hide hidden trophies and using this website while playing a game could spoil it.
TrueTrophies
TrueTrophies is the worst of these sites for general use. Navigating is just... painful. When I've used it, I kept going back and forth trying to figure out where something was. It does provide similar stats that are shown on other websites but just use PSNProfiles for that. It does however have some stats and information that isn't available on the other two such as 'My PlayStation Story' and time spent playing certain games, that is, if you can find them. My PlayStation Story basically generates an image that tells you the months and amount of trophies you've earned in the months along with other stats such as estimated game value and total game file size. So basically, this website is horrible for general use but provides some info not available on other websites.
Something stupid I found about TrueTrophies is one of its terms of use states "When writing game walkthroughs for TrueTrophies, you agree to relinquish any Intellectual Property Rights over the contents of those walkthrough to TrueGaming Network ltd. This allows us to update the contents of these walkthroughs if necessary." so I would recommend not posting guides there. This is completely unnecessary as it's fully possible to be able to update and modify guides without the author relinquishing their copyright to a company. They could've just written that authors grant the site to a license to do whatever but still hold the copyright to the writings like PSNProfiles' ToS does or better yet, have authors agree to publish under a libre Creative Commons license.
Rarity Hunting
If you are a rarity hunter, PSN Trophy Leaders would probably be the best website to track trophies since they have a finer rarity grading system than PSNProfiles which just takes the regular PSN rarity system and applies it to the accounts tracked on the site. TrueTrophies has their own trophy grading system that applies a formula to determine how many TrueTrophies points a trophy is worth on a per trophy basis. I don't know what this formula is though and can't find any information about it.
