Nightcoin - My Retired Real Life Currency

Index Cards As Currency

Years ago around early 2016, I invented a currency I named Nightcoin to be used in real life. At the time I learned about how some communities had their own currency that was used despite being able to use a national currency such as USD while being in the US. This gave me the idea of making my own currency. I had also known about Bitcoin at the time and that's what inspired the currency's name. After developing the concept, I had to figure out how I would make it. I had no access to a printer so I decided that I would just make the currency manually by writing the information on index cards with a pen. The initial value of Nightcoin was 10.(1) cents but I later changed it to just 10 cents.

Design

Nightcoin had two series with minor differences from each other. The 'A' series contained the following information: Top left corner of the title line had an 'A' written to indicate the series. The 2nd and 3rd lines of the index card said "1 Nightcoin" (the tail of the 'g' went into 4th line) with the currency symbol after (letter N with a horizontal line through the center). The 5th line said "Not redeemable for cash". The left side on 8th-10th lines was a vertical line as a security symbol. The right side on the 9th line had the serial number which was five digits, starting with 10001 I believe. The 'B' series had the following differences: Instead of an 'A', a 'B' was on the top left corner to indicate series. In the center of the title line was the word "One" to indicate the value of the Nightcoin. The 5th line said "NRFC" in the center. Bottom left on 9th-10th lines had a V-shaped security symbol. Serial numbers started with 10091 I believe. The back had a large Nightcoin symbol. Everything was written with red ink on both series.

Usage

You may be wondering if Nightcoin was ever used and yes it was used by other people although mostly if not exclusively to transact with me. I am unsure if it was ever used without me. I currently possess 10 Nightcoin, 5 of each series. I am unsure of how many total I made but there are still Nightcoin out there somewhere if they weren't destroyed or thrown away.
